Stop A Litterer In Western Victoria
With support from EPA Victoria, the CMRWMG, in partnership with the Waste Reduction Group, Mildura RWMG, Desert Fringe RWMG and Grampians RWMG are promotings its new campaign "Stop A Litterer in Western Victoria".
Information Centres, Service Stations and other Tourist Venues from Warnnambool to Hamilton to Nhill to Swan Hill and Wedderburn have display units that contain free resources to support the EPA's Litter Report Line 1800 LITTER. You can grab a free car litter bag, an air freshener and a wallet that contains litter report forms next time you visit one of these centres. When you are out and about in regional Victoria, please stop a litterer by reporting offending cars by calling 1800 LITTER or visiting www.reportlitter.com.au

Don't Litter The Murray River
With support from EPA Victoria, the CMRWMG and neighboring Regional Groups, NevRwaste, ResourceGV and Mildura RWMG launched the Murray River Litter Report Line Roadshop in November 2008. The campaign raises awareness about the EPA Litter Report Line - 1800 Litter and will encourage people to report anyone disposing of rubbish along the Murray River incorrectly.
The campaign also encourages campers along the River to use any of the local transfer stations or landfills to dispose of their waste. Follow this link to see the poster used as part of the campaign.

Tackling Littering and Illegal Dumping
With support from EPA Victoria, VicRoads and its member Councils, the CMRWMG has initiated a project to reduce roadside litter and illegal dumping hot spots around the region. The project was officially launched on the 25th of May 2007 by EPA Victoria Chairman Mick Bourke at Quambatook. Around the region, 66 road signs have been installed that encourage people report litterers using the EPA Litter Report Line. Local Laws Officers from each of the Councils are also clamping down illegal dumping sites by cordoning off sites and placing signage up to highlight that the Council is actively investigating the rubbish disposal and that is now keeping a close eye on the site to deter any "would-be dumpers."

Butt Free Pubs and Clubs

With the introduction of new legislation that bans smoking in licensed premises on July 1 2007, the CMRWMG is working with its member Councils to reduce any potential butt litter that may find its way out into the streets. The ban requires smokers to go out to outdoor smoking areas or onto footpaths to smoke, and there are concerns that butt litter will increase in these locations. To try and encourage patrons to do the right thing, the CMRWMG is promoting Sustainability Victoria's campaign "Don't Be a Tosser" and will be distributing personal ashtrays, posters and broom and shovel sweepers to a number of pubs and clubs around the region to reduce the impacts of cigarette butt litter. Some pubs and clubs will also be eligible for rebates to purchase windproof ashtrays and place them on the front of buildings. For more information about any of these projects, contact the Regional Education Officer.
