Waste Wise Health Care

East Wimmera Health Service became the GOLD CERTIFIED  Waste Wise healthcare provider in the Central Murray Region in December 2009. EWHS has made some signficant improvements to their waste and recycling systems. Since 2006 they have reduced their by 18 tonnes and increased their recycling by an increadible 44 tonnes. They currently divert 35% of their waste for recycling (by weight) or 45% by volume.

With the introduction of kerbside recycling in the Loddon Shire, Boort and District Health and Inglewood and District Health were keen to utilise the Waste Wise program to help them improve their waste management systems. They were both certified as Waste Wise in 2007. IDHS completed a new action plan and achieved silver certification in June 2009. Waste Wise Tertiary Sector

The CMRWMG certified the Sunraysia TAFE Swan Hill Campus a bronze level Waste Wise organisation in early 2007.
The Swan Hill Campus could see a need to introduce effective recycled systems around the campus to help reduce their waste disposal costs and to improve resource recovery. As part of their action plan, students from the campus are now collecting aluminum cans to assist in fund raising and they are looking to expand this into the wider community by setting up can recycling bins at local businesses in Swan Hill.

The staff and students have also embraced improved paper and cardboard recycling facilities. In late May 2007, the TAFE changed all their copy paper over to recycled content paper which is a fantastic achievement.
